この「When All the Laughter Dies in Sorrow」から最後の「Man vs. Man : The End」は、一つの組曲「Elegy」となっています。歌詞があるのは、この曲(詞の朗読なので、曲と呼ぶのもちょっと違いますが)だけなので、Elegy全体の内容にここで触れておきましょうか。この後の2曲、「Canon」と「Once Upon a Time」は、まだ文明が起きる前ののどかな世界を描く歌。その後の「Progress?」は、文明の進化を疑問視する歌。その後の「The Approaching Storm」は、人間が全面戦争になだれ込んでいく様子を描く曲。最後の「Man vs. Man : The End」は、人類の滅亡を描く曲。そんな感じです。なんですが、曲としては楽しめる内容になっていて、そんなテーマであることは余り意識せずに聴いたらいいのかなと思います。「The Approaching Storm」は、リズムセクション以外の5人のソロが聴ける曲でなかなかご機嫌です。
