「Lark's tongues in Aspic」から「Red」、「USA」までの第2期King Crimsonの歌詞はRichard Palmer-Jamesの手によります。このRichard Palmer-JamesはSupertrampのオリジナルメンバーで、ベースのJohn Wettonと友人だった関係で、King Crimssonの歌詞を担当することになったようです。
歌詞は、詩的な比喩を多用した言い回しが特長のようで、なるべく直訳した方が作者の意図を伝えることになるだろうと思って、そういう訳にしました。「あなた」によって私の人生はアンニュイなものなったと歌う歌ですが、「あなた」を別に憎んでも恨んでもなく、アンニュイの原因は誰にもないという感じでしょう。「トランプ」、「楽団の少年達」、「バナナボートの運転手」、「絶望した騎兵」がどういうことの比喩なのかはよく理解できていません。
