アルバムタイトル「Selling England by the Pound」が歌詞の中に出てきます。これは、当時の労働党の選挙スローガンで、それをそのまま取ったようです。「Selling England by the Pound」は、「イングランドをポンド単位で量り売りしますよ」ということなんですが、このアルバムタイトルとしての意味は「イギリスの様々な光景を描写しました」という事なのかなと思います。で、このうちの歌詞に戻ると、牧羊神の話、死んだ老人の話、賭け事に興ずる老婦人の話は、恐らく当時のイギリスで下敷きになる何か出来事があったんだろうと思います。私はそこら辺が分からないので、訳は恐らく不十分だと思います。ちょっと自信がありません。
